Since 1994, the Swiss Travel Industry Guarantee Fund, an independent foundation registered in the commercial register, has been ensuring the protection of customer funds for package tours. The foundation board has eleven members and is made up of representatives from various travel companies from across the country as well as a legal advisor. Currently, 400 tour operators and travel agents with a total of almost 900 branches and brands from Switzerland and Liechtenstein are affiliated with the Guarantee Fund. All participants meet the requirements set by the foundation in terms of professional competence, reliability and solvency, and are subject to regular checks. Since its inception, the Guarantee Fund of the Swiss Travel Industry has already spent more than CHF 20 million to support almost 28,000 consumers affected by bankruptcy cases.
