Sasso San Gottardo

The once top-secret, legendary Gotthard Fortress is home to the unique Sasso San Gottardo Museum, featuring exhibitions and the historic fortress itself. The exhibitions include an energy cavern and a crystal cavern, a ‘cabinet of curiosities’, displays on the legend of the Gotthard, and an exhibition on Goethe in Switzerland and his three adventurous journeys across the Gotthard. On the extensive tour through the tunnels in the Gotthard massif, visitors can also take the Metro del Sasso into the historic fortress, where large caverns lie hidden deep within the Gotthard: troop quarters, gun emplacements and ammunition depots. A side tunnel leads to a spectacular panoramic viewing platform.
